The beautiful jewelry you are admiring is the product of a wondrous journey. It begins in the Czech Republic, in the town of Jablonec nad Nisou, where glass beads have been manufactured since the 16th century. Due to the master of the Czech bead makers, these high-quality beads have vibrant colors and fantastic shine, are perfectly shaped and wonderfully textured. They are often imitated, but never duplicated. The beads are shipped to Guatemala.

In the highlands of Guatemala, groups of families make gorgeous jewelry from the Czech beads. The beadworkers are talented artisans who memorize complex patterns and produce a dazzling array of designs. These villages have rich traditions of weaving and embroidery that is complementary to the bead-work craft they now enjoy.

The jewelry is brought to the US. by Enchanted Imports. Enchanted Imports abides by the principles of fair trade:
"The working conditions are excellent. Artisans work wherever they like, mostly in the joyful environment of their own homes. They make their own hours. We pay fair wages in the local context, and provide opportunities in four different economically disadvantaged communities. With respect to most of our items, we pay more than we need to, and make sure that most of the money goes directly to the artisans. We maintain long-term relationships within these communities based on trust and respect. As of this writing, Enchanted Imports supports over 50 families through this program."
